A resident of Jamnagar detained at Sardar Vallabhbhai International airport on Monday morning has got both the immigration officials and local police in a tizzy.

The youth, who was nabbed by the immigration department, not only managed to go to Kuwait for four months, but even returned by flight without a passport.

Initial investigations have revealed that Guru Mohammed Munaf Bhaya had gone to Kuwait four months ago by sea. On Monday morning when he returned on a flight, the immigration officials asked him for his passport.

“He then presented us his fishing card (a licence to fish). He didn’t even know what a passport was, yet he managed to fly all the way back from Kuwait. We are investigating as to how he managed to fly from an airport in Kuwait without showing his passport,” said an immigration official.

VS Sarvaiya of Sardanaragar police station said that they are investigating if the fishing card shown by the 25-year-old actually belongs to him or not.

“A number of things need to be investigated, including how he managed to arrive in the city without a passport,” said Sarvaiya.
