Yeddyurappa’s vanishing act keeps cops on toes, people enthralled

High drama unfolded at the Lok Ayukta special court and outside the residence of former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday before his arrest.

Yeddyurappa who filed for an exemption from appearance on the grounds of back pain expressing his inability to climb up the stairs later surrendered himself to the court after an arrest warrant was issued. His aide Krishnaiah Shetty collapsed in the court hall after arrest warrant was issued to him.

Yeddyurappa had filed an application seeking for personal exemption on medical grounds. However, after the judge rejected his medical plea and issued an arrest warrant, Yeddyurappa absconded.

According to sources, Yeddyurappa was huddled with his legal aides even as the police went on the look out for his arrest between 1pm and 4pm.

The Lok Ayukta police formed a team to execute the arrest warrant. The team rushed to Yeddyurappa’s residence on Race Course Road and searched for him.

They had surprise in store as Yeddyurappa was not found in the house. They searched for him there for more than 30 minutes.

The team then headed to his private residence at Dollars Colony. But, before they rushed to Dollars Colony they received information that Yeddyurappa will surrender before the court. Later the team rushed to the office and then to the court.

The officers heaved a sigh of relief as Yeddyurappa appeared in the court at 4.45pm walked without any discomfiture into the court hall 24 on the third floor without any sings of severe backpain.
After the court directed that he be taken to judicial custody,

Yeddyurappa had made an escape from the back doors. When the litigants, the lawyers and media were waiting for him to come from the front door, Yeddyurappa came back through back doors smiling. He was then taken to judicial custody.
