Yamuna water level rises further

Officials from flood control department said water level may go up further as Haryana has released nearly 80,000 cusec water into the river today.

The water level in Yamuna rose further today due to heavy rains in the city and release of water into the river by Haryana.
 
The water level, which had crossed the danger mark of 204.83metres on Friday, has touched 205.84metres this evening. The water level had come down to 205.77metres last night.
 
Officials from flood control department said water level may go up further as Haryana has released nearly 80,000 cusec water into the river today. The neighbouring state had released over two lakh cusec water into Yamuna on Wednesday.
 
Authorities have so far evacuated nearly 2,000 people from low-lying areas along the river and set up 169 relief camps to provide shelter to them.
 
The city government has already deployed 57 boats, 68 divers and a unit of disaster management force.
 
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit had visited various relief camps on Wednesday and instructed officials to ensure availability of food, medicines and proper lighting there.
