The threat of floods in certain areas of East Delhi is still looming large as the water level in Yamuna rose today and is likely to increase further due to the release of water into the river by Haryana.

The water level, which had crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres on last Friday, has rose to 205.96 metres today from yesterday's 205.84 metres.

Officials from Flood Control Department said water level may go up further as Haryana has released nearly 39,000 cusec water into the river today which is likely to reach the city later tonight.

The neighbouring state had released 80,000 cusec of water into Yamuna yesterday while two lakh cusec of water was released on Wednesday.

Authorities have so far evacuated nearly 2,000 people from low-lying areas along the river and set up 169 relief camps to provide shelter to them.

The city government has already deployed 57 boats, 68 divers and a unit of Disaster Management Force.
