Prime minister Manmohan Singh today said the worst on price rise is getting over and expressed hopes that the situation would improve with a good winter crop.

Addressing an election rally in Haryana, which goes on polls on October 13, the PM said he was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the common man due to rising prices.

"I am fully aware about the difficulties being faced by you due to price rise...the worst is getting over on price rise. With a good rabi crop, we should be able to cope with things," he said.

Explaining the reasons for price rise, Singh said, "The prices of food products in international markets have gone up, monsoon rains have not been enough and drought-like situation has prevailed this year."

He also said that the Centre had also increased the prices of crop produce of farmers.

"However, we are trying our best to check the price rise through campaigns against hoarding and black-marketing."

He hoped that they were anticipating a good rabi crop, which should also help check rising prices.
