Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had drawn flak for his 'sexist' remarks on women's reservation bill, today claimed that the legislation will only benefit women of rich class who will corrupt the election process.

"If the bill is passed it would only benefit women of rich and influential class and they would corrupt the election process which would also become costlier," he said while addressing a meeting of state executive and legislative party at Samajwadi Party headquarters here.

Insisting that the women reservation bill was not acceptable in its present form, the SP supremo said that the Left parties would also reconsider the bill.

Mulayam's remark last month that women elected through quota will be whistled at had drawn flak from political parties and rights bodies.

The CPI(M) had slammed the SP leader for resorting to a "low level" of debate, saying his logic to oppose the women's reservation bill holds no ground while friend-turned -foe Amar Singh had termed it as "sexist, Talibani and a cheap remark".

Yadav, however, remained apologetic and asserted that his statement was not a slip of tongue but was made after evaluating all aspects so as to initiate a debate on the issue.
