TV is said to be a trend-setter, good or bad, by many. This proved true again when Ranip police reported a bizarre incident where a woman, inspired by the idiot box, tried to end her life by drinking phenyl, on Monday. Mercifully, she survived the drastic attempt at suicide and is being treated in hospital.
According to police, after watching a news report on a local channel, the woman decided to verify claims made on the TV. Geeta Thakor, 30, alongwith her husband Hiren and their 9-year-old kid were watching TV on Sunday nightat their residence at Kamdhenu Society in Ranip. A local news channel aired reports about a child consuming phenyl but reportedly escaping unharmed in any manner. Watching this scene unfold before her eyes, Geeta was curious to verify the veracity of the claim herself - and soon landed in hospital.
She reportedly took a swig from a bottle of phenyl in the bathroom and soon started feeling discomfort. When a worried Hiren asked her what had happened, Geeta told him how she had consumed the liquid after watching the news report. The husband called 108 emergency services who rushed her to VS Hospital where she is
being treated.
Ranip police interrogated the Thakors but were not humoured by the grave incident. They have registered a case of attempted suicide against Geeta Thakor.
