A 29-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband in West Delhi on their tenth wedding anniversary, police said today.

Anchal was murdered on Friday night allegedly by her husband Prince Kocher (32), a scrap dealer, who has been arrested, V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (West), said.

According to the official, the accused had tried to commit suicide twice in the past five years as he was upset with his wife's "over possessiveness" and the couple would quarrel frequently.

"Anchal was forcing him to shift to a separate house . He told us that he was unable to tolerate the pressure and taunts from his wife. So he decided to murder her," Renganathan said.

"Last Friday, it was their marriage anniversary and the couple and their two children went to Connaught Place. After dinner, they left their children at the house of Anchal's parents in Mahavir Enclave," he said.

The couple returned to their home in Janakpuri and late Saturday, their maid and son Sahil found Anchal in unconscious condition in her bedroom. She was declared brought dead at hospital.

After inspection of the crime scene and the body, it became clear that the killer had no other motive except to murder her, Renganathan said.

"Kocher was asked to join investigations and police found an injury mark on his right hand. When he was asked about the injury, he told us very confidently that he got it while cleaning his motorcycle," he said.

Kocher was interrogated, he said adding, "There were some other scratch injuries on the inner side of his arms near shoulders. On sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime."

During interrogation, Kocher told the police that he did not have a cordial relationship with his wife as she used to quarrel with him on petty issues.

"Due to this, he tried to commit suicide about 5 years back by taking sleeping pills. After this, there was a peace for some days but that did not last long. He again tried to end his life about 18 months ago by cutting his veins," Renganathan said.

Renganathan said Kocher convinced Anchal to celebrate the anniversary by leaving the children at her maternal house.

"Initially they went to Connaught Place where they had dinner. Then they went to Mahavir Encalve where they left both the children. They returned to their residence at Janak Puri where he consumed liquor.

"After that, he punched Anchal on her face. Then he pressed her mouth with his hands strongly to suffocate her. Anchal tried to save herself due to which he sustained injuries on his body," he said.
