Unable to take rejection, a 26-year-old lawyer stabbed his lover-cum-colleague to death in the high-security Karnataka high court around 1.40pm on Thursday.

The accused, Rajappa, was allegedly frustrated as he believed the parents of Naveena Reddy, 23, had found a groom for her.

Eyewitnesses said Rajappa stabbed Reddy several times and slit her neck while other lawyers were moving out for lunch. He then locked himself in a toilet and stabbed himself in the chest and back.

The court security police broke open the door and took him to hospital, where his condition is critical. Reddy succumbed to her injuries within minutes.

The police said Reddy and Rajappa studied at the Government Law College, Bangalore, and passed out in 2006 and 2009, respectively. They fell in love during their college days. Rajappa would often propose marriage to Reddy, but she kept saying no.

Rajappa proposed again on Thursday, but killed Reddy when she rejected him again. The police said the murder was pre-planned since he had brought the knife with him to the court.

“She did not tell me anything regarding any love affair. I found a groom for my daughter, but the engagement was yet to take place,” Reddy’s disconsolate father, Srinivas, told DNA.

A case of murder and attempted suicide has been lodged against
Rajappa.
