Woman dies as security men open fire to celebrate India's win

A woman died when she was hit by a stray bullet fired by personnel of a paramilitary force celebrating India's World Cup win in Thoubal district, official sources said today.

The personnel of 15th Assam rifles opened fire in the air last night to celebrate India's win over Sri Lanka and a bullet hit Y Mani Devi,70, they said, adding that she died on the spot.

A spokesman of Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed by the local people to protest the incident, said they would submit a memorandum to chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh demanding an enquiry into the incident.
