They say, ‘one father is more than 100 schoolmasters’. Somewhat strict, yet soft, the stern but, gleaming and ever so proud face of a father is what most children see while growing up. On Father’s Day today, youngsters have come up with variety of novel ideas and gifts to surprise their father’s.

Anirudh Shah, 19 plans to take his ‘pappa’ for a boys day out this father’s day, “I want him to relax on this day. He has worked hard all his life as a businessman. He makes it look easy but I know he has sacrificed a lot in order to bring our family where we stand today” he says. “My dad is someone I’ll look up to no matter how tall I’ve grown” Shah added.

Taking a one week crash course in cooking with a neighbour, Richa Singh, 16, has learnt to cook her father’s favourite delicacy, the gajjar ka halwa “I wanted to gift something unique to my dad and I knew this would make the perfect gift. He loves sweets and always wanted me to learn cooking” she says. Sana Qureshi, 18, intends to gift her ‘abba’ a handkerchief with a personally hand woven design while young Vishnu Parikh, 12 has printed out a certificate which declares his father to be the ‘best dad in the world’, “we are like two volumes of one book, only difference is, he is the better version” he says.

Ila Amrutbhai Patel, 25, did not have it easy in her childhood. Just like any other Indian family, the Patel household were expecting a son when Ila was born and that too being visually impaired. But, Ila’s father, instead of being dejected celebrated her birth with as much pleasure. Young Ila now teaches at the Andh Kanya Gruh. She is happily independent thanks to her father’s unwavering support. “what Narmada is to Gujarat, my father is to me” Patel says. “I don’t have much to offer but I would give away my life for him if need be. This father’s day I take a vow to be very successful in life as a tribute to my dad who has fought every norm in our society for me,” she adds.
