More than 150 parents and relatives of missing children from across the state gathered at Law Garden, and made an appeal to the police and government to find their children.
More than 150 parents and relatives of missing children from across the state gathered at Law Garden on Wednesday evening, and made an appeal to the police and government to find their children.
These parents were invited by the Human Rights Committee of India with details of their children, so that a comprehensive database could be prepared. At the venue, the visitors shared their pain with others who had lost their children and relatives.
Majority of these parents complained about complete inaction and lethargic attitude by the police in finding their kids. According to some, police officials ask them to find their children on their own. Others complained that cops ask for money to trace their children. These parents also alleged that police were least bothered in finding their kids and made them run from pillar to post after taking their complaint.
Officials of special branch, Intelligence Bureau, Prevention of Crime Branch and other police officials were also present at the meeting. However, on spotting PM Parmar, inspector of PCB, the parents cornered him and asked him to improve the approach of the police in finding their kids. On being asked about the purpose of his visit, Parmar said he was sent by the police commissioner to find out about the proceedings.
The parents were holding banners and posters with requests to the government and the chief minister. One of the banners read, "Modi uncle, will our brothers and sisters never return?"
Expressing solidarity with the grieving parents were wives of police officials, who had come there to cheer the parents and share their pain. These woman, residents of Ellisbridge police line, included Hansa Joshi, her daughter Sneha and another Rajashree Gadhvi. They met some parents and tried to console them.
During the meeting, parents were asked to fill up details of their missing children in a form and attach a copy of the complaint to local police station along with a photo of the child. "We have received 69 such forms after the meeting. I also received 22 calls from those who haven't come here, but will send the details through post. We will upload these photos and details on our website searchmychild.in in coming days, so that others can help in finding them" said Sanjay Joshi, who had organised the meeting.
