West Bengal govt mulling IT hub in Behala

The West Bengal government is considering setting up a IT hub in the south-western suburb of Behala in the mteropolis, IT Minister Partha Chatterjee said tonight.

"The chief minister has instructed us to look for land to set up the IT hub," Chatterjee, told a function to distribute arrears of MLALAD funds to housing societies and clubs under his constituency Behala West.

Stating that the creation of jobs was a priority for the Mamata Banerjee government, he said, "what this government has done in seven days, the previous government could not do in seven years."

He said that the proposed Joka-BBD Bag Metro Railway, touching Behala, will be constructed on a war-footing. "The PWD and Transport departments have been given instructions to this effect. Those who said that the project will not take off will be proved wrong."

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee was eager to end the traffic jams along the arterial Diamond Harbour Road in Behala area, he said.

Expressing gratitude to his constituency for electing him to the Assembly thrice, Chatterjee said he has submitted several development proposals for Behala, including modernisation of the Vidyasagar and Sarsuna hospitals.

The government will take over the North Kolkata house of Sister Nivedita, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda. "The house has been visited by many luminaries from all walks of life. It will be taken over through Kolkata Municipal Corporation."
