Wednesday hottest Sep day since ’02 in Ahmedabad

September is usually mild, with a hint of the cold winter months ahead. This year, however, the month is stubbornly hot and humid, so much so that on Wednesday, Ahmedabad experienced the hottest September day since 2002.

The mercury rose to 38.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday in the city. Ahmedabad had experienced an even hotter day September day only in 2002 when the mercury rose to 38.9 degree Celsius on September 28. The hottest September day in the city recorded so far was September 29, 1951, when the mercury rose to 41.7 degree Celsius.

Data available on the Indian Meteorology Department’s website indicates that, in September this year, the temperature in Ahmedabad hovered around 35-36 degrees Celsius.

Manorama Mohanty, a meteorologist at Ahmedabad Met Office, said the hot days are an indication that the monsoon is coming to an end.
