Eviction was to protect Baba Ramdev: Delhi police

The police claimed that there were intelligence inputs about threat to Ramdev's life prompting them to disrupt the guru's congregation at Ramlila grounds.

Asserting that Baba Ramdev’s agitation had become a national threat and security agencies had no other option to crackdown on it, the government on Sunday said there was also a threat to the Baba’s life which prompted them to clear him out.  

According to intelligence inputs more than one lakh people from various states were expected to arrive in the capital on Sunday to join Ramdev’s campaign. “Due to an SMS campaign we got inputs that more than one lakh people were expected in the capital on Sunday. Ramlila ground was already crowded beyond its capacity of 30,000 people. On Saturday, around 80,000 people were camping in the ground. It was creating major security threat,’’ Rajan Bhagat, Delhi police spokesperson told DNA.

“In the garb of Baba’s supporters, a group of 7-8 people would sneak into the crowd to carry out attack on him,’’ said an intelligence official. According to Dharmendra Kumar, special commissioner, Ramdev posed as a woman to escape.
