Even as Ahmedabad dreams of being a megacity, its citizens are fighting over basic amenities — to the death.

One person was killed and seven others injured when a tragic scuffle broke out between residents of Suramya Society in Nikol over the availability of water.

Vijay Patel, a resident of Suramya Apartments in Nikol attacked a group of people during a meeting that was held on the terrace of their apartment to resolve a long pending issue of non-availability of water.

Police sources said that Patel had pre-planned everything and had even called some outsiders to assault certain members of the society who were attending the meeting. He initially had a heated argument with the victim and later summoned some of his friends to assault the society members.

Police sources said that Patel's father Narsinh and his brother Jayesh too were present during the scuffle. In the ensuing brawl one Gordhan Gedia, a resident of the same society, got killed while seven others were seriously injured and had to be admitted to various hospitals. Patel, his father and brother are absconding.
The seven injured were identified as Lalu Patel, Tejas Patel, Bharat Patel, Dinesh Patel, Vinu Patel, Shashikant Sanghani and Vallabh Taladia.

Police inspector, Odhav police station, MS Sindha said that Patel had broken some pipelines in his building a few days ago after he failed to get water. He later prevented the society members from getting the broken pipes repaired, Sindha said.
