VS’s electrical dept runs sans chief

It's no wonder that you find electrical wires hanging overhead when you walk in the wards of the Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital! And when you browse through the staff  list, you suddenly realise that the electrical department which is responsible for keeping the wiring in the VS intact, does not have a boss!

Avinash Lad, who used to head the VS Hospital's electrical department resigned from his job  four months back but the civic body has not bothered to fill his post till date.

"Lad was not very happy with the VS authorities. He felt he was not getting what he deserved. So, he had submitted his resignation letter long back but it was accepted only recently, after (mayor) Kanaji Thakore took over," says a source close to development.
Senior AMC officers, however, feel that the absence of a head in the electrical department does not mean that the department is not keeping a check on the wiring condition. "Officials in the electrical department are performing their duty even without a head of the department," said a senior AMC official.

But, since one of the reasons for fire problems that civic hospitals have cited is careless and open electrical wiring, it does matter
if the department does not have a chief. Ultimate responsible in
any department, be it in a private or public hospital, does rest with the dept head.
