Extending support to the Army Chief, General VK Singh, who has claimed that a equipment lobbyist had offered him a bribe of Rs14 crore, Team Anna member and RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal said the former was being targeted because his fighting against corruption.

"He (Singh) has fought against corruption, and perhaps, that is why he is being targeted," Kejriwal told media.

"The struggle of General Singh has our complete support. He is a respectable army chief who fought against corruption, during which many cases of graft were exposed. We feel this became the very reason behind him being targeted. If the army chief of the country stands up and says that someone tried giving him a bribe of Rs.14 crore, then it is a matter of grave seriousness.

On one hand, the Army chief is raising the issue of corruption inside the Indian army. On the other hand the government has removed the army from the ambit of its own version of the Ombudsman Bill. The government is not at all worried about the corruption inside the army," he added.

General Singh had earlier told the national daily 'The Hindu' that "he was offered a bribe worth Rs.14 crore by an equipment lobbyist in order to have a tranche of 600 sub-standard vehicles of a particular made cleared for purchase.

General Singh said, "One of these men had the gumption to walk up to me and tell me that if I cleared the tranche, he would give me Rs.14 crore. He was offering a bribe to me, to the Army Chief. He told me that people had taken money before me and they will take money after me."

He also said that he reported the incident to Defence Minister Antony.
