Viral epidemic hits Gujarat's Nahra village

After the onslaught of epidemic in Dungripura of Savli taluka, another village named Nahra, has been severely affected by viral fever. About 100 residents have been suffering from acute pain in joints, fever, and severe headache. The epidemic is now spreading its wing in the entire region.

Nahra, located 12kms from Savli is suffering from the fury of viral fever in huge proportion. The village consists of about 3,000 people. Majority of the villagers are engaged in farming and agriculture-related labour work. About ten days ago, suddenly the villagers started suffering from fever, and body ache, which created panic among the citizens of the village.

The villagers informed the health department and soon the department officials arrived and took the blood sample and started the treatment by giving required medicines.

Majority of the villagers were suffering from high fever, body ache, joint pain, especially pain in knee joints etc:. Within 15 days, more than 100 persons had become victims of the fever followed by continuous joint ache. Talking to DNA, the Sarpanch of Nahra village, Ranjitsingh Parmar said, “I am also suffering from this epidemic. Here, about 100 residents have already fallen ill in the last ten days. The fever comes is controlled within three to five days, but only after stiffness and severe ache in the joints especially in the legs and hands. There is a patient, suffering from either of the symptoms, in almost every Mohalla.”

Primary health center officials of Sandhasal village have already taken the blood samples of the villagers, while a survey has also been carried out by the health workers.  Talking to DNA, Dilipsingh Parmar, a villager said, “The residents of the village are suffering from the fever, which is followed by severe joint pain and stiffness in joints.”

Providing details about the epidemic, the Savli block health officer Dr Rahul Singh said, “This is a type of viral fever, which is infectious by nature. The infection even spreads through air. The main cause behind the eruption of the epidemic is the water puddles, open water tanks etc., which are responsible for the breeding of the mosquitoes. The medication of the victims is
being regularly conducted.”
