Vehicle thief arrested in Ahmedabad

He was like any other village lad. But with mentors in the Sabarmati jail and his own desire to lead the high life, he soon turned into a professional par excellence as far as vehicle thefts were concerned. The Vastrapur police nabbed Alpesh Patel with a stolen bike on Saturday and also seized three more bikes and a car from him.

Police inspector, Vastrapur police station, BK Purohit told DNA that earlier Patel had spend some time in the Sabarmati jail under Prevention of Anti Social Activities (PASA). "He was nabbed with a stolen bike and more vehicles were later recovered from him," Purohit said. Purohit said that Patel, a regular offender, had stolen many vehicles from the city. In fact, the cop said that Patel would steal the vehicles from the city and sell it in his hometown Viramgaam.

The police are hopeful that the arrest of Patel will help them crack many more vehicle theft cases in the city. Source said that Patel is in police remand and will be interrogated. Sources said that Patel is a resident of Zanzarka village in Viramgam. "He was arrested for some petty crimes and sent to jail. It was here that he came in contact with many hardened criminals and this gave a boost to his crime career," said the source.

"Following his stint in jail, he concentrated on stealing vehicles and had become an expert of sort in it," the source said.
