The Chandigarh-based Forensic Science Laboratory has confirmed that the three CDs containing recordings of Varun Gandhi’s alleged ‘hate’ speeches, made during the run up to the Lok Sabha election, are indeed in his voice, a UP police officer said.

However, the criminal charges against the Pilibhit MP are yet to be substantiated as he had reportedly refused to give his voice sample to investigating authorities in Pilibhit.
“We have received the report which confirms it is Varun’s voice and have approached the state the home department to file a chargesheet,” Pilibhit SP Prakash D said.

“We had sent three recordings of Varun’s speeches to the Chandigarh-based laboratory. It is only a matter of formality to match his voice sample with that in the recordings. There were video recordings of the speeches as well,” another police officer said.

The officer refuted media reports stating that the CDs had also been sent to a forensic laboratory in Hyderabad. “We had sent the voice recordings only to Chandigarh. I don’t understand how some TV channels have been talking about the involvement of the Hyderabad forensic lab,” he said.

However, Varun’s mother Maneka Gandhi says the forensic report is “one-sided.”

“The entire tape was doctored. Nobody has seen it. We are talking about voices here. This version is one-sided. We will prove it in court. The entire tape has not been proved authentic. We have said the words are interchanged. Fifty other things have gone wrong there,” Maneka told reporters in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari held the BJP responsible for supporting Varun’s alleged hate speech and trying to reap political dividend out of it.
“He has been caught. It is not only Varun, but the BJP and Sangh Parivar who are responsible. They stood by him and thought they could reap political dividend out of it. When you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind. That’s exactly what has happened in this case,” Tewari said.
