Vadodara municipality demolishes 100 illegal dwellings

The city municipal corporation today razed 100 illegal dwellings thus taking the total number of such demolitions to 400 in the last three days, a top official said.

Though, the occupants were reluctant in vacating the dwellings, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) with the help of police carried out the drive without any obstacles. These 400 dwelling units were located in Chhani, Waghodiya Road, Tulsiwadi, Gotri, Akota and Karelibag localities in the city, C M Makwana, VMC deputy municipal commissioner said.

He said the demolition drive was launched following refusal on part of the occupants to relocate in newly-constructed units which are allotted to them under JNNURM and BSUP Phase-I schemes launched by the Centre and the state government.

They were given enough time to vacate illegal dwelling units but refused to do so. the VMC had to demolish illgal dwelling units in these localities. the deputy commissioner said.
