Uttar Pradesh urges Centre to extend time for submitting Haj passports

'Passports are to be issued to 27,845 Haj pilgrims this year. However, only 1516 passports had been issued so far,' PWD Minister and chairman state Haj Committee Naseemuddin Siddiqui said.

The Uttar Pradesh government today demanded the Centre to extend last day of submitting passports for Haj pilgrims and implement system of issuing special international passports.
           
"We have requested the external affairs minister to introduce system of issuing special international passport for Haj pilgrims and to extend the last date of submitting passports," PWD Minister and chairman state Haj Committee Naseemuddin Siddiqui said here.
           
He expressed displeasure over delay in issuance of passport to the Haj pilgrims.
           
"Passports are to be issued to 27,845 Haj pilgrims this year. However, only 1516 passports had been issued so far," he alleged.
           
The minister said that the special passport cell has not made computer entry of 7575 applications received till May 31, despite the fact that all formalities were complete.
           
"The system of issuing special passport, which is issued within 15 days of application without police report should be introduced," he demanded.
           
He has directed police department to verify applications of the Haj pilgrims on priority and submit its report to the passport office at the earliest.
           
He has also directed the Haj office to accept application forms of the pilgrims without passport.
