The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the excise department to launch a crackdown against people involved in spurious liquor trade in the state.

The minister directed the officials to maintain special vigil on the borders and to constitute teams to check supply of illicit liquor.
Principal secretary Netram said that till July month action was taken against 36,162 people and 5.09 lakh litre illicit liquor was seized.
He said that 3,619 people were arrested and 134 vehicles were impounded.
