A criminal declared "most wanted" by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with over a dozen cases of murder and robbery, was arrested in New Delhi, the police said today.
Rahul, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, was apprehended from Kashmere Gate on Friday on a tip off, additional commissioner of police (crime) Neeraj Thakur said.
A .315 bore country made pistol with three live rounds was recovered from him.
"He is one of the most wanted criminals of western UP. He was wanted in about a dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder, assault on police and robbery," Thakur said.
Rahul allegedly took to crime due to enmity with a person, Sanju Pradhan of Bhajju Village following a land dispute. He formed his own gang. He was arrested but got bail and has since not been appearing in court.
On August 18, he allegedly shot dead a young woman in Baghpat while she was on her way to a temple. The reason behind the murder was local political rivalry.
