Utsav Sharma had come to the city to make a film on the Ruchika molestation case, according to Ramesh Kumar, caretaker of the Jat dharamshala, where Utsav had been staying since January 13.
The student from the National School of Design in Ahmedabad, pursuing a course in animation, had expressed keen interest in the molestation case.

Ramesh said Utsav used to pay Rs40 per day at the dharamshala, which is close to the residence of former Haryana director general of police SPS Rathore in Panchkula.

A day before he stabbed Rathore, Utsav did not find place at the dharamshala as it was booked for a wedding, Ramesh said, adding that he did not look mentally unstable and disturbed.

Rathore has declined to file a police complaint against Utsav for inflicting stab injuries on him on the court premises on Monday. Rathore and his lawyer ND Sharma sustained injuries in the attack.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jain, one of the Ambala-based counsels for Rathore, claimed he had been receiving threatening letters for over a month. Jain said he approached the police seeking security after the attack on Rathore.

On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana high court had agreed to hold in-camera proceedings in the molestation case that involves Rathore.
