Undertrial escapes after giving chilli treat to police in Ludhiana

An undertrial today escaped from a police van after throwing chilli powder into the eyes of escorting personnel while five others of his group were caught after a hot chase in the city.

Police said that six undertrials were being taken to the central jail here after being produced before a court, when they made a bid to escape from the escort team.

They threw chilli powder into the eyes of personnel sitting at the exit of the bus and ran away at Sector 32 A in the city. SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said five of them were caught after a chase but one Rinku was at large.
