Water level at the Ukai dam was maintained a few inches above rule level by the district administration on Tuesday. 70,000 cusecs of water was discharged from Hathnoor dam, while 1,02,397 cusecs of water was discharged from Ukai.

Interestingly, despite discharging two lakh cusecs of water, there was minimal reduction in the dam's water level.

On Tuesday, the water level of Ukai dam was recorded at 335.06 feet, a marginal reduction from 335.20 feet in the afternoon. Due to the outflow, water overflowed from the weir-cum-causeway in Surat. However, no incidents of water entering residential areas were recorded.

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) closed four flood gates in the morning to prevent water from penetrating low-lying areas of the city. Constant monitoring was carried out by the district administration and civic officials to prevent unwanted situations.

"We are fully prepared to tackle every situation, but looking at the water being discharged, there is very little possibility of floods in Surat. After releasing one lakh cusecs of water on Tuesday, another 60,000 cusecs will discharged from Ukai. At present, there is nothing to worry about and everything is under control," VD Patel, city engineer with the SMC, said.
