Two villages to use solar energy for power consumption

Puducherry chief minister V Vaithilingam today said government was finalising two villages where solar energy would be the only source of energy for domestic use and requirements of government buildings and street lights.

Handing over awards to various institutions on the occasion of Energy Conservation Day, he said electricity department in the Union teritory was maintaining a low transmission loss with 12.6%, while the national average was 30%.

Home and environment minister E Valsaraj said government was encouraging usage of solar energy and flurosent lamps to conserve energy.
