Yet another case of college students being involved in the theft of bikes has come to light with the Isanpur police arresting two youths on Thursday evening and seizing six motorcycles from them. The two are students of KK Shastri Science College.

The youths have been identified as Hitesh Patel (19), a resident of Ghodasar, and Mehul Patil, a resident of Haripur in Maninagar. Both of them are students of second year BSc. The investigating officer and sub-inspector of Isanpur police station, JV Suryavanshi, told DNA that both of them were going on a stolen bike. Their movement caused suspicion during routine patrolling, leading to their arrest.

"They had stolen six bikes, including two from Ramol and one each from Vatva, Maninagar and Isanpur," Survayanshi said. He further said that the two accused had not sold any bike to anyone, but were themselves using them. "They rode the bikes till they liked. When they wanted to have a new bike, they used to abandon the earlier one and steal a new one," Suryavanshi said. On occasions, they used to abandon the bikes when they ran out of petrol.

The two accused hail from middle class families. They indulged in crime for the sake of fun. Patel's father is a bangles trader, while Patil's father is a rickshaw driver. They were nabbed from near Shiv Complex at Mangleshwar Mahadev in Isanpur.

A few days back, four youngsters from Rajkot were arrested from Navrangpura for similar cases of bike theft.
