Two Punjab men murdered in France

Two persons from Punjab working in France were allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants near Paris, the father of one of the victims said here today.

Sohan Singh, father of one of the deceased Jaspal Singh, 34, said that he received a phone call from France late on Saturday evening informing about his son's murder.

Jaspal, a native from Sangrur district was working as an electrician there with his Jalandhar-based friend Mandeep.

Singh said his son and Mandeep, a resident of Dhaliwal-Bate near Jalandhar were murdered by some unidentified assailants.

One of their friends was also injured in the attack with sharp-edged weapons, Sohan said.

The French police, however, has informed that they would ascertain the motive and intention of murder and a time frame of 90 hours has been fixed for the probe, Sohan said.

The family and villagers have demanded that Jaspal's mortal remains be brought to India for the last rite.

Meanwhile, Punjab PWD minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and deputy commissioner (DC) Kumar Rahul visited the grief-stricken family.

The DC said that he along with Sangrur SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar has informed the Indian embassy to initiate necessary steps for air lifting the mortal remains of both the youths to India.
