Two NDFB linkmen nabbed in Assam

Two NDFB linkmen have been apprehended by the army while they were extorting money in Assam's Sonitpur and Udalguri districts, official sources said here today.

Security forces apprehended a linkman while he was extorting Rs 5 lakhs from a tea estate manager in Sonitpur district yesterday.

In a separate incident, another NDFB linkman was apprehended from Mazbat area of Udalguri district while trying to extort Rs 3 lakh from a contractor.

The arrested linkmen have been handed over to police.

The security forces have stepped up efforts to nab extortionists following a spurt in kidnapping and extortion cases in areas where militant outfits like the NDFB and ULFA are active, sources added.
