Two men were arrested here for allegedly duping a mobile company of around Rs70 lakh by making overseas calls on international premium numbers, police said today.

Mohd Rizwan (29) and Varun Kumar (28) were caught last week following probe into   complaints by Vodafone that their post paid SIM cards were procured using fake documents, SIM cards were procured by way of exchange and there was misuse of
lost SIM reactivation process.

The Company said they were cheated by the duo who used these methods to make international calls for Rs 70 lakh.

"The duo procured post paid SIMs on fake identity to call international premium numbers in Bulgaria, England, Romania, Switzerland, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone," Additional
Commissioner of Police (East) Anand Mohan said.

According to Vodafone, there were more than 200 such post paid SIM cards which have been misused. The mobile company was asked about the status of dialled international numbers as whenever police tried to dial on them, the call could not be connected. The company also could not ascertain the status of these numbers, he said.

"Technical surveillance was kept on around 70 mobile phones on which fake SIMs were used. After scrutiny of a month, two persons were identified and secret watch was kept on their movements," he said.

Rizwan was arrested from Gharoli Dairy Farm while Kumar two days ago from UP's Indirapuram.
