Security forces achieved a major success on Monday when they killed two top militants including the assassin of ruling National Conference (NC) leader in a night-long encounter at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. Two army men including a captain were injured in the gun battle.

Police said Muzaffar Ahmad Malla of Tral and Suhail Ahmad Khan of Dadsara were killed at Koel Shikargah village in an encounter which started Sunday evening.

Muzaffar Malla was Divisional Commander of Hizbul Mujhadeen for South Kashmir who was nominated to the post after the death of Sajjad Ahmad alias Balle on April 5. Suhail Ahmad Khan had joined militancy a year ago and was involved in the killing of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, NC block president in Pinglish Tral on March 30.

“As the police party was establishing itself, it came under fire from one of the houses belonging to Muhammad Yousuf Bhat. Cordon was further tightened around that house and militants were told to surrender but they instead fired again.
