Two inmates killed, 16 injured in clash at Uttar Pradesh jail

Two inmates were killed today and 16 others, including a deputy jailor, injured when an undertrial hurled a crude bomb after a clash broke out between two groups of prisoners at the district jail, prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident.
    
Prince Ahmad Ansari who had hurled the bomb and Nazir Khan died at the hospital this evening after sustaining serious injuries during the clash, police sources said here.
    
"Ansari engineered the clash and attacked the jail staff in a bid to escape, but was killed," home department officials said.
    
The state government has asked IG prisons Yogesh Shukla to hold an inquiry into the incident which took place in barrack number 3 and 4 this afternoon where Ansari and his aides clashed with Nazir Khan's group, they said.
    
When deputy jailor Sunil Dutt Mishra along with acting jail superintendent Nathu Singh Sengar attempted to pacify the inmates Ansari hurled a crude bomb in which 13 inmates and three jail guards were injured, they said.
    
Mishra, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, has been rushed to Kanpur, sources said.
    
Meanwhile, jail superintendent Avinash Gautam has lodged an FIR in this connection.
    
Police said that Ansari, who was a sharp shooter of politician Mukhtar Ansari gang and had 14 criminal cases against him, was shifted from Lucknow to Orai district jail nearly eight months back.
