Two held on charges of aiding Maoists, Rs60 lakh seized in Warangal

Two persons were arrested on charges of assisting CPI Maoists in collection of party funds, in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh and Rs60 lakh was seized from their possession, police said today.

V Veeraiah and Siddam Shetty Vykuntam were arrested while they were handing over Rs60 lakh, extorted amount from civil contractors, to CPI Maoist cadre near Gangugudem village under Eturnagaram police stations limits yesterday, Warangal district superintendent of police Shahnawaz Qasim told PTI over phone.

Veeraiah and Siddam came to the forest abutting to Gangugudem village to handover the extorted money to CPI (Maoist) cadre, but were nabbed while around 12 CPI (Maoist) cadre who came to collect the amount managed to flee in the dense forests after noticing the police party, he said.

The duo in their confession to the police said that they were working for CPI (Maoist) and assisting it in extorting money, the senior police officer said.

Veeraiah and Siddam would be produced before the court for judicial remand. The investigation is on and efforts are on to nab remaining accused, he said.

Meanwhile, a police party unearthed and seized a dump of seven wire budles, used to make gelatine sticks, on the outskirts of Narsimhasagar village in the district, Shahnawaz Qasim said.
