Two die of sunstroke in Jharkhand; Bokaro records 47.2

Two persons today died of sun stroke in Hazaribagh, the first of this summer in Jharkhand, as heatwave continued to sweep across the state with steel city Bokaro recording 47.2 degree celsius.

The sun stroke victims died in Hazaribagh town, which registered 41 degrees, official sources said.

This was the first official confirmation of heat-related deaths in the state this summer. Unofficial reports, however, claimed there were four deaths in East Singhbhum district during the day.

In Bokaro, people stayed indoors due to the sizzling condition.

In Palamau the maximum temperature was 44.9 degrees celsius, Jamshedpur 44.6 degrees, Dhanbad 44.2 degrees, the Met department said.

People in several districts are facing acute water crisis and the administration is providing drinking water through tankers, official sources said.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Education Authority directed all district deputy commissioners to close schools from April 24 for summer vacation.
