An exporter and a call centre employee were arrested in the national capital for allegedly kidnapping a manager of HDFC bank for a ransom of Rs 25 lakh, police said today.

The victim, Rahul, was lured allegedly by Naveen (25), a distant relative, to attend a "party" and his associates helped him to kidnap the bank official, HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (South), said.

Naveen, a student of Delhi University and running a factory which exported shoes, allegedly conspired to kidnap Rahul so that he could arrange for funds to clear his debt as his business was not running profitably.

Another person arrested, Kuldeep, graduated from Delhi University and is at present working in a call center in Gurgaon.

Rahul's uncle had made a complaint to the police that he did not reach his home on June 27 and his father had received ransom calls of Rs 25 lakh.

During investigations, the official said, police came to know that Rahul was coming in a train from Sanpla to New Delhi. He had injuries on his body and was in a very poor condition.

He was immediately taken to hospital and treated. His questioning led the team to Naveen, his distant relative.

Naveen, the son of younger brother of Rahul's uncle, and his friend Kuldeep were traced by the police.

"It was discovered during investigations that Naveen along with his friends Manoj, Harsh and Kuldeep hatched a conspiracy to make some easy money by kidnapping Rahul," Dhaliwal said, adding they lured him by inviting him to a "specially organised party".

He told Rahul that he was busy and he should come with Manoj. "Naveen and Harsh, another friend, were in a car. Rahul who was under the impression that they were going to a party rode pillion with Manoj and reached around Rohini."

"They met Naveen and Harsh and had drinks. Then they left for GB Road in the same car. Meanwhile, Rahul was overpowered by Manoj and Harsh. Naveen handed over Rahul to Manoj and Harsh in his car," Dhaliwal said.

"Kuldeep made several calls to the father and mother of Rahul and demanded Rs 25 lakh for the release in the name of some Munna," he added.
