Trinamool Congress alleged the Marxists were trying to recapture areas by creating terror after Sunday's Brigade Parade ground rally.
Seeking to dissociate the party from the killing of two senior CPI(M) leaders in Burdwan town, Trinamool Congress on Wednesday alleged the Marxists were trying to recapture areas by creating terror after Sunday's Brigade Parade ground rally in Kolkata.
"Trinamool Congress is not involved in the incident which was a fallout of CPI(M)'s failed bid to recapture areas," party leader and Commerce and Industries minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters in Kolkata.
"When our party workers were hoisting party flags at Dewandighi area in Burdwan town, CPI(M) cadres assaulted Trinamool Congress worker Bidyut Hazra and he had to be taken to hospital," he said.
"Taking advantage of the situation, CPI(M) cadres tried to recapture areas in nearby villages and faced resistance in which two of their leaders lost their lives," he said.
Alleging that CPI(M) and the Left were trying to stall the state's development and create unrest, Chatterjee said "after the Brigade Parade Ground rally, the harmards are attempting to recapture areas as we feared earlier.
"Some former ministers and party leaders too are also taking part in this," the minister said.
The Trinamool leader denied CPI(M) allegations that his statement against the February 28 industrial strike on Thursday was provocative. "I had only said that the people will take to streets to resist the strike.
"I would like to alert the people that CPI(M) is issuing provocative statements but our workers will remain united and ignore the strike call."
Chatterjee claimed that within 10 months of the installation of the Mamata Banerjee government, the state has witnessed a flurry of development.
Law minister Moloy Ghatak also denied involvement in the killing of two senior CPI(M) leaders and claimed the two were victims of 'mob fury'.
Ghatak said "Trinamool Congress was not involved in the incident. The two CPI(M) leaders Pradip Tah and Kamal Gayen were victims of mob fury after armed processionists went on the rampage in the area."
