Trinamool Congress, an ally of the ruling Congress, today indicated its opposition to the government on the issue of price rise, saying it would "stand with the people".

"TMC will always be with the people. We are a responsible party and TMC will never do anything which will create problems for the common people," Railway Minister and senior TMC leader Dinesh Trivedi told reporters here.

He was asked if the TMC will support the Government if there is voting on the issue of price rise.

The party has earlier opposed the hike in petrol prices by the UPA government, of which it has been a prominent partner.

On whether if the allies would support the government on the issue, he said, "Yes, but in Parliament allies also express their views. Everybody has the right to express their views in this temple of democracy."

Asked if the government was not willing to have a vote on the issue, Trivedi said the government is not hesitant on any such issue.

Commenting on the Left parties, Trivedi said they have been rejected "Lock, stock and barrel"  by the people.

CPI(M) has been pressing for a vote on the price rise issue, saying it was useless to hold another discussion without voting.
