Transparency, development and good policing will be the key areas the new Trinamool Congress (TMC) government will focus on in West Bengal in the coming years.

In a conversation with DNA, senior party leader Dinesh Trivedi, who is also the minister for state for health, said that the next five years with the TMC government at the saddle, will be the golden years for the state. “The state has a great potential in various sectors which has remained untapped to its full potential so far. We plan to utilise that to maximum in the next five years. You will see a changed Bengal,” Trivedi said over telephone from Barackpore. He said transparency has always been the strong point of party leader Mamta Banerjee and a “trump card”.

He said that during land acquisitions the new government would strictly go by people’s wishes, cushioned with high compensation and jobs for the displaced. “Our candidate has won in Singur which shows the will of the people. We have to respect this will and take them along as we go for development,” Trivedi said.

He said the West Bengal public has voted for change since it was fed up with the incumbent government.

“Mamta Banerjee’s victory has restored the faith of people in democracy. Since the police was heavily politicised and the law and order was in a mess, the first task will be to de-politicise police and restore people’s confidence.
