Trinamool activists teargassed, caned

The police fired teargas shells and lathicharged a crowd of Trinamool Congress activists when they broke a barricade and tried to enter the office of the Howrah district superintendent of police today.

Trinamool activists broke a police barricade put up outside the SP, Harikishore Kusumakar's office in their bid to submit a memorandum to the police super, the police said.

Trinamool Congress alleged 15 of their supporters were injured in the police lathicharge.

Sources said that the police had a tough time in dispersing the crowd.

Combat force and RAF were deployed to defuse tension.

There was no report of any arrest.
