Trinamool activists teargassed, caned

The police fired teargas shells and lathicharged a crowd of Trinamool Congress activists when they broke a barricade and tried to enter the office of the Howrah district superintendent of police today.

Trinamool activists broke a police barricade put up outside the SP, Harikishore Kusumakar's office in their bid to submit a memorandum to the police super, the police said.

Trinamool Congress alleged 15 of their supporters were injured in the police lathicharge.

Sources said that the police had a tough time in dispersing the crowd.

Combat force and RAF were deployed to defuse tension.

There was no report of any arrest.

Trinamool sources said that they had gone to the SP's office to register protest against 'police inaction to check theft, dacoity and criminal activities in Howrah district''.
