The 108 emergency service is continuing to prove a boon for citizens, especially in remote areas, helping save several lives.

On Monday, the 108 service saved three lives as a tribal woman in Valsad district delivered twins in the ambulance itself while she was being taken to hospital.

According to information, Lalita alias Urmila Rathod, a resident of Kalwada village in Valsad district, suffered labour pains late on Monday. The pain worsened even as her family members struggled to find a vehicle to take her to hospital.

Meanwhile, a 108 ambulance arrived at the scene after being informed about the pregnant woman. The ambulance left for hospital, but had travelled only a short distance when Lalita's pain became unbearable.

Realising, that any further delay could be fatal for the woman and her unborn infant, the paramedical staff in the ambulance decided to perform the delivery in the vehicle itself.
Within few minutes, Lalita delivered twins, both of them boys. The delivery was normal. The woman and infants were taken to Valsad civil hospital later, where they are being taken care of. Both infants are reported to be healthy.

The 108 emergency service, which has saved a number of lives since it was launched in Gujarat in 2007, proved to be a boon for the tribal family.
