A lull in violence in the Valley this year had a positive effect on economic welfare measures initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir government, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today.

"Tranquil situation in the state, especially in the Valley, during this year has had positive effect on economic welfare measures initiated by his government," he said.

Omar was addressing a public meeting at Rafiabad, 65 kms from here, in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

"My government aims at transforming the Jammu and Kashmir into a model state in the country where justice, equitable development and rule of law will rule the roost," the Chief Minister said.

"My government is determined to ensure that peace dividend reaches the people and they are actively involved in the process of development and political stability," he said.

"We are able to hold successful Panchayat elections. Subsequent transfer of powers to these democratic institutions has led to fruits of development programmes reaching the people across the state," Omar said.
