Training camp of Naxalites destroyed in Bihar

Police today destroyed a training camp of the CPI (Maoist) ultras and seized explosives and Naxal literature following an encounter in Panchrukhia hillock under Madanpur police station area in Bihar's Aurangabad district, a police official said.

The encounter between the police and the Naxalites lasted for about six hours, but there were no reports of casualties or injuries to anyone from either side, the superintendent of police Vivek Raj Singh said.

The police, however, destroyed a training camp, including two bunkers, during the operation against the ultras, Singh said, adding two petrol bombs, explosives and naxal literature, cooked food and utensils were also recovered from the spot.

Six suspected naxalites have been detained for questioning, the Samajwadi Party said.

Earlier this morning, the police had launched a massive combing operation against the naxalites hiding on Panchrukhia hillock and an encounter ensued between them after the ultras opened fire on the police, Singh said.
