In the wake of the attack on Gyaneshwari Express in West Bengal, the All India Locomotive Running Staff Association (AILRSA) today decided that the drivers would not run trains through Maoist affected areas in the night till adequate security was guaranteed.

"AILRSA has decided not to run trains in passing through rebel stronghold areas in the night till adequate security arrangements are made in the trains," the Association said in a memorandum submitted to Raveindra Gupta, (Chakradharpur)
Divisional Railway Manager of South Eastern Railway.

AILRSA President, HN Singh and vice-president Vijay Mandal alleged that sufficient security arrangement was not provided in trains passing through these area though the railway was aware that Maoists were observing a 'Black Week' from today.

The goods train driver who died in the incident is an AILRSA member, Mandal said and demanded Rs50 lakh compensation and a job to his next of kin.

He suggested train speed at 30 kmph in day time in Maoist hit areas to minimise impact in case of similar attack.
