A day after his wife was killed in cross firing between the militants and the security forces, a man died in a roof collapse in a village in Kishtwar district.

The incident happened when district officials went to Patnazi village, 240km from here, to pacify a protest by the villagers alleging that a woman was killed in a firing by security forces yesterday.

They were deliberating the issue with the protesters on the roof top of the house of one Noor Mohammed when it collapsed, killing him on the spot and injuring 12 others, an official spokesman said.

Mohammad was the husband of the woman, Basri Begum.

The officials, including the Naib-Tehsildar, had clarified with the protesters that the woman was killed in cross firing between the militants and the security forces, he said.

The injured were later rushed to district hospital at Kishtwar for treatment.
