A top   banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) leader along with an Indian journalist and a photographer was detained in Myanmar but the two mediapersons were later released.

Home secretary RK Singh said on Sunday Jivan Moran, second-in-command of the hardline faction of the ULFA led by Paresh Baruah, had been detained in Myanmar, agency reports said.
The two journalists detained by the Mayanmarese army, were from Assam, Union home ministry said.

Rajib Bhattacharya, the executive editor of an English daily, and photographer Pradip Gogoi who works for a local television channel, had gone to Myanmar to interview Paresh Baruah, the self-styled commander-in-chief of  ULFA.

The home ministry sources said both had been released but their mobile phone and camera has been confiscated. “The two persons detained in Myanmar were both journalists. They have been, perhaps, released by now since they didn't go there with any bad intention,” Khagen Sarma, additional director general (special branch)  of Assam Police told DNA.

He expressed ignorance about the arrest of any ULFA leader along with the two journalists. The trio were reportedly detained in the eastern part of  Myanmar bordering China. It is immediately not known when and under what circumstances they were detained. After their detention, the Myanmarese authorities gave  the information to the Indian government, sources said.

They said the two would be crossing into India soon.
