Bhavna Patel teaches yoga and aerobics at a private gym in her neighbourhood in Shahibaugh. She said that two-three months prior to Navratri, number of people coming for aerobics almost doubles up. "It helps the Navratri enthusiasts get back in shape, maintain stamina," said Patel, who added that aerobics steps also help the dancers learn the garba steps easily. Patel teaches four to five extra batches of 15 people each, everyday.

Another gym instructor at Go Fit Gym in Bopal, Neel Rathod, said, "Each year, more than four-five people come to us every day to enquire about Navratri special aerobic batches and hence, owing to the demands, we hold special aerobic classes for two months prior to Navratri." Gym instructor at the city's Parsana Gym, Nimish Chauhan, too agreed with Rathod and said that around 15 people are attending aerobics classes at the gym, especially for the Navratri, so as to regain lost shape.

Smita Patel, an HR executive at a private bank, said, "Although I do not get time to go to the gym the entire year, I try to sneak in some time few months prior to the Navratri so that I can lose all the extra flab that I gain all through the year. Each aerobics session helps me lose around 300 calories and hence I find it the best means to get back in shape before the nine-night rendezvous."

In addition to this there are also people who join gym only to increase the size of their biceps, triceps and flat tummy. Symbo gym in Satellite has witnessed close to 40% growth in number of people who have joined here targeting the Narvarti. Explaining the reasons, Dr Snehan Dave, owner of Symbo gym said, "We have seen admission of around 70 people between the age group of 18 to 40 years. Of all who joined exclusively for Navratri, 60% are male."

The youngsters are demanding growth in biceps and reducing fat from their tummy so that they look lean and attractive while wearing sleeveless jackets (koti) and kedias. On the other hand, girls concentrate on losing fat from their lower abdominal area, Dave added.

The gym instructors and owners at other gyms in the city also said that the women who have joined gym keeping Navratri in mind as their target for loosing weight, are mostly housewives. According to them these women are from high-profile families who would like to show off their well-maintained body or look good in the society garbas.
