Police and residents of Ramdevnagar, meet; plan to set up action panel to curb hooch menace.
In a bid to prevent hooch tragedies, senior police officials met residents of Ramdevnagar in Satellite on Thursday and urged them to prevent anyone from consuming country made liquor or even selling it in the area.
In fact, officials said that an action committee would be formed with the help of community leaders to stop the inflow of hooch in the area. Speaking to the residents, joint commissioner of police sector-1, Satish Sharma said, “Let us plan an action committee wherein 10 people will be entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that liquor is not sold or consumed by anyone and if anyone does so, action be taken against the person.”
ACP ‘A’ division, VR Toliya who was present at the meeting said community leaders will be consulted for the formation of the action committee with the help of police officials in the area to prevent any untoward incidents such as the hooch tragedy.
A resident of the area, Ratansinh Solanki said, “The problem here is that of education. If more people were to be educated then such incidents will not happen.”
On the other hand, a resident on condition of anonymity says that hooch is sold in the area. “Liquor is sold here. It is mainly bought from other areas. The risk of consuming it is huge as it is mostly spurious.”
DCP, zone-1, Brijeshkumar Jha was also present at the meeting. He urged residents to usher in a new year by not consuming liquor. Four cases of suspected hooch consumption were detected this week. While two of them have died, one is still alive. Police officials expect to find a link to the flow of hooch by interrogating this man. On the other hand, Nandu Dantani, a resident of Satellite who was admitted to the VS hospital, died on Thursday. Officials said that they are still awaiting FSL report of the patients to confirm if they had consumed hooch.
